Davis Dam: A Vital Waterway

Constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation to fulfil the 1944 Treaty with Mexico, Davis Dam plays a crucial role in regulating water flow to the Colorado River. Located approximately 70 miles downstream from Hoover Dam, this impressive zoned earth-fill dam features a concrete spillway, powerplant, and intake structures. The construction involved nearly 4 million cubic yards of materials, 23 million pounds of reinforcing steel, and 600,000 cubic yards of concrete. The reservoir created, Lake Mohave, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a variety of lakeside activities and scenic trails that highlight the area's rich history.
